El Día Del Niño celebrated in Glasgow

Mexican Family Fun Day

Saturday 25 April 2015, 1-4pm at the Old Barn, Glasgow

Men at work

What are we celebrating?

A fabulous family fun day to raise funds for Mision Mexico celebrating Children’s Day, ‘El Día Del Niño’.

Why are we celebrating El Día Del Niño?

This is a national holiday in Mexico and is celebrated as a tribute to children in Mexico on April 30.

Children’s Day has been celebrated annually in Mexico since 1925. Children are recognized as an important part of society so the day focuses on the importance of loving, accepting and appreciating children.

How are we celebrating El Día Del Niño?

We’ll be celebrating Children’s Day in Glasgow with picnics on the lawn (BYO), delicious home baking, magic shows, balloon modelling, face painting, nail art, music and a bit of Mexican fun thrown in too!

By joining our party in Glasgow you’ll be celebrating the children in your lives as well as those in Mision Mexico.

The sun came out and we raised £1700 for our Youth Transition Program!

A HUGE thank you to all everyone who turned up to enjoy the afternoon as well as our sponsors and volunteers.

The event pics are here for you to enjoy.

Féliz Navidad! Merry Christmas from Misión México

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is upon us once again – the decorations are still up from last year!!

Looking back at the year we feel so very lucky to say that we have had another blessed year. Our children, thanks to the wonderful support we get through sponsorships, scholarships and donations for education, are able to get a well-rounded education that will open up the future to them.

Thanks to the educational gifts you bought us last year from Amazon, we have been able to home school our children that need it and having good quality resources at our fingertips has made learning so much more interesting and teaching so much richer.

What is perhaps most rewarding is that we have been able to extend our children’s education outside the classroom.

We now have 7 children in Ballet classes and a group of children who play and sing in an orchestra. It is incredibly rewarding to watch these children, once thought to be nothing of value to the people who supposedly ‘cared’ for them, find pride and new found confidence in themselves. Children who had no decent education, hopes or etiquette carry themselves with beauty and grace.

How wonderful it is to be a part of the children’s journey. We are a team of volunteers, sponsors, staff and all those who help or support in any way to advance the lives of these children. Thank you to all of you who follow our progress.   Your love, prayers, and support have not gone unnoticed.

We wish you a peaceful Christmas and may the New Year bring you blessings in abundance.

With love from Misión México

Shopping online = donating to us for FREE!

I’s almost unbelievable, but we’ve found a way you can shop online and get the best price from 3,600 retailers, while donating money to Misión México at no extra cost.

It does sound like there’s a catch, but there’s not.

Give as you Live is a price comparison website, which means when you make a purchase through them online, they make a commission off the retailer for their services. Instead of pocketing this fee like almost all websites, they pass at least 50% of this sum onto the charity of the customers choice. Amazing.

All you have to do is sign up here and start shopping at over 3,600 stores including Amazon, Ebay, John Lewis, Waterstones and Marks and Spencers. When you purchase a product you’ll get the opportunity to select Misión México as your chosen charity!

AND if you sign up via this link they will donate £5 for every referral. It’s that easy.

So far, Give as you Live has helped raise over five million pounds for over 4,500 UK charities. That’s impressive.

So help yourselves to these great online deals this Christmas and you can help us in the process.

Please note, almost all retailers are based in the UK.

We wish you some happy and successful online shopping!

We need you!!!

We urgently need volunteers to come to Misión México and help our kids. We have recently taken several new children into our home and we need energetic, enthusiastic people on deck to act as mentors, friends and teachers to our kids…and of course, to have fun while you’re doing it!

As those of you who have volunteered with us before will know, time at Misión México is not a holiday, however it is incredibly rewarding and you will walk away from the place with the satisfaction that you have made a difference in the lives of these wonderful children.

We would love to see your smiling face in Tapachula again. And this time, why not share the experience with a friend?

As well as needing volunteers to help us out generally, we are currently looking for:

Youth Transition Workers – to act as role models, mentors and supervisors for our young adults as they transition to an independent lifestyle in our male and female transition houses.

Homeschool Teacher– to work with our daughter, Brooke Skuse, to homeschool some of our children who find it difficult to learn in the mainstream education system.

Both roles are a minimum of 6-12 months with living expenses covered.

If you, or someone you know, would like to volunteer with us in Tapachula or share your skills locally to fundraise for our Misión México family please contact
Come and be part of our family and help keep our beautiful children smiling!

Look what we made

Look what we made

brotherly learning

With warm regards,
Pam and Alan Skuse
